At the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Institute of Communication Technology, the Deutsche Telekom Chair of Communication Networks offers, subject to the availability of resources, a position as

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting May 1, 2024. The position is initially limited to 14 months. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification.
Tasks: The selected candidate will be conducting research in implementing network coding in 5G and beyond systems. Specifically, the candidate will be performing the following tasks during the development of this research project:
1. Work on optimization model for the problem of network coding node placement in 5G and beyond systems. The objective is to increase reliability while minimizing end-to-end latency and energy requirement.
2. Develop software for Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) protocols to lower delay. The developed software should be compatible/implementable with 5G systems.
3. Help in the implementation of real 5G testbed, for example, using OpenAirInterface (OAI) with Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP). The testbed will be used to validate the proposed mathematical optimization algorithms.
The Deutsche Telekom Chair of Communication Networks has stood out for providing investigators with state-of-the-art research tools and hardware to optimize the integration of network coding in 5G Systems for different real-life use-cases. Therefore, the successful candidate will interact with ultimate and most advanced technology, applied in the development of network coding solution for 5G and 6G.
Requirements:
• an outstanding university degree (master/diploma) and, if applicable, PhD degree (or equivalent) in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering or a relevant area;
• strong programming skills in C++ and Python;
• an integrative and cooperative personality with excellent communication and social skills;
• fluency in English - written and oral.
Preferred Qualification:
• good understanding of network coding and 5G Systems.
• experience in developing mathematical optimization algorithms.
• experience in designing software libraries.
• experience in working with USRP would be really beneficial.
